How do I use a Ouija Board?

THE DREADED DIVINATION TOOL

DANGERS | 3 RULES | SETUP | IT GOES WRONG | GUIDE BOOKLET

What is a Ouija Board?

Walk the aisle of your local toy store and check out the board game section. See Monopoly, Trouble, Hungry Hungry Hippo, and then a special box.

Sometimes dark with scary fonts to draw you in, other times pink and bright to contrast the name displayed in bold, “Ouija”

Evil, Darkness & Death

Have you seen The Exorcist? The 1970’s movie about a little girl who’s possessed by a demon. There’s a scene, the girl, named Reagan in her basement alone.

Mom walks in to see her playing with a Ouija board. “Who are you talking to?” The little girl says, “My friend, Captain Howdy”.

The Planchette moving around, a mysterious being communicating with the innocent young girl. Happens right before the possession takes hold. All in a movie reinventing the horror genre, boasting fear induced panic where an ambulance is called, and attacking a strong religious ideal.

All held together by the famous line, “Based on a true story”.

The Ouija had nothing to do with the real possessed boy in Georgetown, USA… still the reputation stuck.

Despite this fake fear, the Ouija is not without danger.

Negative Energy

Divination uses living energy to reach out. Some think its direct communication with conscious dead people, others just an extension of a source (called God, etc).

We're not going to focus on what, just how.

One person uses a pendulum to tap psychic ability, and use divining rods to read surrounding energy… The Ouija is used to combine the energies of many people.

A non-psychic person controls their energy, but challenge arises with others. The Ouija is less a toy and more a focal point.

Power rising higher and higher, uncontrollable, mixed with ego and angry, stress and hatred, spewing forth from the brain. It quickly gets out of control.

This is the only danger and we’ve figured out how to control it.

The 3 Rules of Ouija

  1. Be serious, it’s not a game
  2. Always say Goodbye
  3. Never use it in your home

3 rules which have protected us during countless Ouija sessions over 15 years and counting. They encompass many factors and are the root of safe communication.

Some have asked, “What about Rule #4?” --
Never use the Ouija Board alone?

It’s not true, for two reasons...

  1. Most are not psychic enough when alone.
  2. It exists for group energy. No group, nothing happens

How to Talk with the Dead

Setup your Team --
Gather a from 3 to 5 people for the main group.

You can have many on-lookers in the crowd. The more, the better for increased room energy.

Assign Roles --
Jobs for each main participant

  1. The Leader -- 1 person touches the Planchette and controls the session / asks all questions
  2. The Energizers -- 1 to 3 people touching the Planchette / do not speak / do not assume answers
  3. The Documenter -- 1 person not touching the Planchette / takes notes and deciphers what the spirit is saying

Focus is important.

Ensure no main participant has a short attention span or considers the session a joke. It creates negative energy, which can be dangerous or cause poor results.

The Room --
A dark, candle lit room is ideal.

If not available because of Rule #3 (never use in your home), then outside in a park or cemetery is acceptable.

Just make sure it’s quiet and free of disturbance.

The Session --
Details on setup, effective questions and more are found in How to Safely Use The Ouija Board by Daniel Cumerlato

Some important points can fit here…

  1. Be comfortable, body pain leads to negative energy
  2. Ask questions people are passionate about
  3. Rule #2, always say Goodbye at the end

Some other general questions you could ask include

The spirit's name

Their age at death

When did they die

How did they die

Do they have a message for anyone in the group or room

Think of it like a great conversation; you’re Larry King but with dead people.

Something goes wrong --
What happens if you fail to stop before negative energy gets out of control?

A perfect example is conveyed to us by Daniel Cumerlato. This happened to him at a haunted shop in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

“There were three of us at closing time. My ex, a former tour guide and myself, all too hyped up to call it a night. Sitting at a small round table with a homemade Ouija board, we attempted contact with the shop’s resident ghost.

“Her name was Elizabeth. She made herself known to many psychics who said she didn’t like us being in her home. She communicated with negative energy, to drive us away. We wanted more information.

“The old woman came through. We asked her name, “Elizabeth”. Asked if she hated us, “Yes”. Asked, "Do you want us to leave?", and the planchette stopped.

“The board didn't respond, but the room did.

“The air got heavy and hard to breath. We looked over to the dark, empty psychic parlour. The curtain slightly parted and a feeling something was there, watching us. Dread rose until we were forced to leave.

“Ending the session, we said “Goodbye” but the planchette didn’t move. I forced it.

“We immediately left the shop, and the next day it felt normal again.”

In this example, the group handled it perfectly.

If it gets out of hand... end the session and leave. Negative energy will usually evaporate.
